BMI Categories

BMI is calculated as weight (kg) ÷ height (m)²:

Underweight Below 18.5
Normal weight 18.5 – 24.9
Overweight 25 – 29.9
Obese (Class I) 30 – 34.9
Obese (Class II+) 35 and above

BMI is a screening tool, not a diagnostic measure. It does not account for muscle mass, bone density, or fat distribution. Always consult a healthcare professional for a full health assessment.

What Is BMI and Why Does It Matter?

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple numerical value calculated from your height and weight. It provides a general indication of whether you have a healthy body weight relative to your height. A BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is considered normal weight for most adults.

While BMI is a useful starting point, it has limitations — it doesn't distinguish between fat and muscle, and it may not be accurate for athletes, the elderly, or people from certain ethnic backgrounds. Use it alongside other metrics like waist circumference and body fat percentage for a fuller picture.

Tracking your weight alongside your daily steps in the Strift app helps you see the correlation between your activity level and your body weight over time.
